Marta Sánchez headlines a world-class professional field in one of Europe’s key triathlon events
Challenge Salou – Costa Daurada 2026 has officially sold out, reaching its capacity of 1,200 registered triathletes set to compete in one of the leading events on the international triathlon calendar.
Taking place from 8 to 10 May in Salou, the event will welcome athletes from around the world, with 57% international participation and representation from 50 nationalities, reinforcing its global profile.
The race will feature more than 50 professional triathletes and a total prize purse of €30,000, attracting both elite and age-group competitors.
A fast and spectacular course
The highlight of the event will be the Middle Distance, which will also host the Catalan National Championship. The course is designed for speed and performance along the Mediterranean coast.
The swim (two laps) takes place in the calm waters of Platja de Llevant. The bike course (four laps) runs on a closed highway, allowing high speeds, while the run (four laps) follows the seafront promenade, supported by strong spectator presence.
Weekend programme
The event begins on Friday 8 May with the Expo and race pack collection.
On Saturday 9 May, activities include the SAILFISH Swim Check, official press conference and race briefings. In the afternoon, the Aquathlon Distance will take place, also serving as the Catalan National Championship, featuring a 1,000 m swim and 5 km run.
The day will also include two charity events: the Kids Run (1 km) and Family Run (2 km). Both races have a symbolic €2 entry fee, with all proceeds donated to the Rosa Maria Vivar Foundation, supporting people affected by Alzheimer’s. Participants will cross the same finish line as Sunday’s triathletes.
Race day on Sunday
The main race day will take place on Sunday 10 May, starting at 7:15 am with the professional Middle Distance race.
The programme continues with multiple age group waves and the Short Distance, starting at 9:30 am.
From midday, athletes will enjoy the Finisher Experience with the Montsià Paella Party, followed by the awards ceremony at 4:00 pm.
Elite professional field
The 2026 edition features a strong professional line-up. In the women’s race, Spain’s Marta Sánchez, currently ranked among the top athletes nationally, will compete alongside Italy’s Elisabetta Curridori and Australia’s Milan Agnew.
In the men’s race, European middle distance champion Will Draper leads a field that includes Joe Skipper, Harry Palmer and Jack Hutchens, who will challenge defending champion Thomas Davis.
A high-level field that reinforces Challenge Salou as a must-attend event on the European triathlon calendar.
