A total of 1,000 triathletes will take part in the event, which will take place next Sunday, April 3.
Salou consolidates its international standing with triathletes from 46 countries.
The Pro start will feature 90 professional triathletes.
Next Sunday, April 3, the 7th edition of OTSO CHALLENGESALOU will take place, one of the most prestigious international triathlon events on the Costa Daurada. The event, part of CHALLENGEFAMILY, will have a total of 1,000 participants who will swim 1.9 km, bike 85 km and run 21 km in the Middle Distance and Middle Distance Relay; and 1.9 km swim, 60 km bike and 11 km run in the Short Distance.
The race will start on Sunday at 08:00 AM, with the winner expected at 11:50 AM at the finish line located in the Plaza de las Comunidades Autónomas de Salou. With a fast three-lap bike course and a run along the promenade, the race will be one to remember.
OTSO CHALLENGESALOU not only awards €25,000 in prize money, but is also a qualifying event for The Championship to be held in Samorin, Slovakia, on May 22. In addition, professional athletes will earn points for the PTO world ranking, Challenge Family World Bonus, as well as the national Middle Distance ranking of the Spanish Triathlon Federation (FETRI).
International standing
After closing registrations on March 24, the OTSO CHALLENGESALOU confirms its international standing with a spectacular lineup of triathletes from 46 countries and 90 professional triathletes.
Among the most prominent names are current Spanish Long Distance Triathlon Champions Judith Corachán and Víctor Arroyo, Vincent Luis (FRA), Pieter Heemeryck (BEL) (winner of Challenge Salou 2019), Anne Haug (DEU) (number 5 in the world ranking) or Lisa Norden (SUI), who returns to Salou after her win in 2021.
Fast and safe course
Thanks to the collaboration between the organisation, the Local Police, Mossos d’Esquadra and Servei Català del Trànsit, the OTSO CHALLENGESALOU 2022 will once again have a fast and safe course so triathletes can compete and enjoy the event to the fullest along the highway C-31B.
Activities all weekend
In addition to the middle distance triathlon, OTSO CHALLENGESALOU presents a range of activities so families can also take part in a unique experience and enjoy this sport.
In addition to an Expo with free access at La Siesta Salou Resort & Camping, epicenter of the event, on Friday, April 1 in the afternoon, a “Meet & Greet” will be held with the event’s top professional athletes and a first recce of the OTSO CHALLENGESALOU bike course with the “ABUS Bike Course”. On Saturday, April 2 in the morning, the same 28 km cycling recce will be repeated. Later it will be the turn of the “SAILFISH Open Water” swim and the “Junior Challenge”, the run for the little ones, which will take place inside La Siesta Salou Resort & Camping.
