Juanan Fernández, Quality Director for Challenge Family in Europe and Race Director of Challenge Salou, has been honored at the Avriga Fvscvs Awards, organized by the Consell Esportiu del Tarragonès and proposed by the City Council of Salou.
The award ceremony, held at the Teatre Auditori de Salou (TAS), recognized Fernández’s remarkable career, dedication, and ability to project the city of Salou internationally through sports, tourism, and large-scale endurance events.
During the ceremony, the Mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, highlighted “Juanan’s outstanding contribution and leadership in consolidating Salou as a European benchmark for sports tourism and international triathlon.”
For over a decade, Fernández has directed Challenge Salou, one of the most iconic triathlons on the European calendar. The 2025 edition marked its 10th anniversary, attracting more than 2,000 athletes from over 40 countries, and generating a significant economic, media, and social impact across the Costa Daurada.
In addition, for the past eight years, Fernández has served as Quality Director for Challenge Family in Europe, overseeing event standards and athlete experience across international races in Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Italy, France, and Brazil, among others.
“This recognition belongs to the entire team, to the City of Salou, and to the hundreds of volunteers and sponsors who have always believed in this project. Sport has the power to transform territories and build community pride,” said Fernández upon receiving the award.
The Avriga Fvscvs Award reinforces Salou’s position as a leading destination for sports and active tourism, celebrating the commitment of individuals and organizations who drive the region’s sporting growth and international visibility.
