The new race will take place on Saturday 9 May with a 1,000m swim and a 5km run, including prize money for the top clubs
The Challenge Salou – Costa Daurada 2026 race weekend will begin with an important new addition to its sporting programme: the introduction of the Aquathlon Distance, a race combining a 1,000-metre swim and a 5km run, which will also host the Catalan National Clubs Championship in this edition.
The competition will take place on Saturday 9 May at 17:00 at Platja de Llevant in Salou, right in the heart of the event. The course will connect the beach with the seafront promenade, offering athletes and spectators a spectacular Mediterranean setting.
The Aquathlon Distance is organised by Challenge Salou – Costa Daurada and Salou Triatló Costa Daurada, with the support of the Ajuntament de Salou and the Catalan Triathlon Federation, and will bring together federated athletes, amateur participants and relay teams, creating an accessible and exciting competition for different sporting profiles.
The race will feature individual male and female classifications, as well as open categories for non-federated participants. In addition, the event will host the Catalan National Clubs Championship, where club rankings will be determined by adding the times of the three fastest aquathletes from each club, in both the men’s and women’s categories, in accordance with the Catalan Triathlon Federation regulations.
One of the main attractions will also be the cash prizes awarded to the top clubs, with €250 for the winning club, €150 for second place and €100 for third place, in both the men’s and women’s classifications.
The event will also reward the fastest sectors of the race — swim, transition (T1) and run — for both male and female athletes, as well as the overall individual podiums. The competition will also include Open categories for non-federated athletes and a Pairs category, with prizes for the top male, female and mixed teams.
The registration package includes an official technical T-shirt, gym sack, swim cap, 226ERS nutrition pack, Red Bull can, race bib and race information, among other services for participants.
The Aquathlon Distance will serve as the perfect prelude to the main race day on Sunday, when the event’s flagship competitions — the Middle Distance and Short Distance races — will take place, completing a full weekend dedicated to triathlon and endurance sports in the city of Salou.
Registrations are now open and can be completed through the event’s official website: www.challenge-salou.com
